Our Application Process

Ontario's Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) lays out the rules and regulations governing the establishment, operation and closure of pits and quarries on all Crown land and designated private land in Ontario.

The proposed Flamborough Quarry must meet the requirements of the provincial Aggregate Resources Act. Our applications for planning approvals were submitted in September 2004 and the City's comprehensive review of these applications is ongoing.

St Marys is preparing an application for a class 'A' license under the Aggregate Resources Act and this application will be submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources in 2008. There will be a formal opportunity for all members of the community to provide comments on all aspects of the proposal once the ARA application is submitted and deemed to be complete. The provincial agency review of the ARA application is expected to take up to two years.

The Combined Aggregate Review Team is a City of Hamilton technical working group established to review the St Marys Flamborough Quarry application.

As we move forward with our application, we will ensure that you are kept informed and involved.
