Proposed Extraction Area
The proposed St Marys Flamborough Quarry is situated on a 158-hectare (380 acre) site at 11th Concession Road East at Milburough Line.
The proposed footprint of the quarry is still to be determined but the extraction area is approximately
67 hectares, representing less than half of the property. Excavation will be 34 metres (100 feet)
deep and the projected life of the operation is 25 to 30 years.
In Ontario there are more than 100 existing licensed pit and quarry sites that are over 200 hectares.
On the basis of size, close to 200 sites in Ontario would rank larger than this proposed site.
St Marys has applied for a class 'A' license under the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) for an
annual tonnage limit of 3 million tonnes. This tonnage limit ranks St Marys behind close to
200 existing sites. There are other sites operating in the area that have no limit on tonnage extracted.
This project is subject to the policies of the Greenbelt Plan, which ensure that no development
will occur in provincially significant wetlands or habitats of threatened and endangered species.
