Information and Next Steps
Keeping You Informed
St Marys wants to ensure all of our neighbours know about the pumping test, have a chance to have any questions answered and understand what the testing requires. To help better inform our neighbours, we want you to have an opportunity to speak with the professionals conducting the test.
Door-to-door visits
Staff from Gartner Lee Limited and Lotowater Technical Services Inc., the consultants retained by St Marys to conduct the test, will visit each residence within 1 km of the St Marys property. Our consultants will come to your house and, if you wish, discuss the testing program and provide you with the information registered for your well, including:
- A copy of the MOE Water Well Record (WWR);
- An aerial photograph showing the location of the well according to the well records.
Our consultants will be able to explain the information contained in the WWR and discuss how the testing may affect your water supply. If there is not an MOE record for the well on your property, or the map location of the well is inaccurate, we can work with you to prepare a summary sheet of information on your well, which you can retain for your records and to correct the well location on the aerial photograph.
Scheduled appointments
If you are unavailable when our consultants come to your house and if you live within 1 km of the St Marys property, you can call us or send an email to schedule an appointment for a time that is convenient for you, and our consultants can come to your house and walk you through the monitoring process and answer any questions you may have. You can contact us at 1.866.602.0080 (toll-free) or communityinfo@stmaryscbm.com.
Information available throughout the testing program
Our staff and consultants will be available on a continuous basis during the testing to respond to any questions you may have. Additional information will be provided at a later date regarding the timing of the test, 24-hour contact information and other information concerning the testing.
Voluntary participation in the well monitoring program
During the door-to-door visits, you can let our consultants know whether or not you are interested in having the well(s) on your property monitored during the pumping test. This program is strictly voluntary and all information that is collected will be kept confidential. Any costs related to the monitoring are the responsibility of St Marys.
We encourage you to speak with the staff at the City and the Ministry of the Environment if you are unsure whether or not you should participate in the monitoring program.
What is involved?
Should you wish to participate in the monitoring program, it will involve the following steps:
- A visit to your property to inspect the well to confirm details on well construction and to determine that the well is suitable for installing monitoring equipment. Some wells may be unsuitable for monitoring if they are inaccessible or in poor condition;
- Collection of water samples from the well for chemical and bacteriological analysis;
- Temporary installation of an electronic water level recording device (data logger);
- Collection of additional samples following installation of the logger;
- Final visit on completion of the pumping test, at which time the water level recorder is removed. During this visit an additional sample(s) will be collected from the well(s) for chemical and bacteriological analysis.
Confidential report
Following the testing, each resident will receive a confidential report on his or her individual well(s) including summary information on well construction, the analytical results from the chemical laboratory analysis and a graph produced from the water level measurements.
The report may be beneficial to you in the unlikely event that you experience any problems with water quality or quantity during the pumping test.
If you would like to sign up to participate in the well monitoring program, please contact us.
