Pumping Test

Pumping tests are a necessary and routine part of any groundwater investigation whether it is to develop a new water supply for a quarry application below the water table, or as part of a larger investigation of an area's water resources.

A pumping test allows St Marys to collection information that can be used to predict what the impact of the quarry would be. This information will help St Marys ensure that neighbouring wells continue to receive a supply of fresh water if the proposed development proceeds.

In order to perform a pumping test St Marys has applied for a Permit to Take Water from the Ministry of the Environment (MOE). The MOE reviews and issues these temporary permits regularly.

The illustrations below show what goes on beneath the surface before, during and after a pumping test. Click here for the complaints procedure for the pumping test.
